Parents of Cynthia Gouw were born and raised in Indonesia. They emigrated to the United States in 1960's from Holland. Cynthia Gouw is the first Chinese-Indonesian  born in the United States who became Miss Chinatown USA in 1984.

Born near Berkeley, California to Chinese American parents, Cynthia embraces the values of diversity and seeks compelling stories around the world. She's a nationally recognized broadcast reporter, movie actress and top model.

As a TV journalist, Cynthia won 3 local Emmy Awards for her reporting from the US, Asia and Latin America. For 10 years, Cynthia appeared in living rooms around the country as a News Anchor and/or Reporter for the ABC and CBS affiliates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas and Sacramento...

In 2004, Cynthia’s friends were visibly relieved when her now-husband consented to marry her. She moved to be with him in Philadelphia and then hosted and produced the TV show “Asian Outlook”, a half-hour talk show focused on the affairs of the Pacific Rim for WYBE Public Television. The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters recognized her show as the “Best TV Talk Show Series in the State”. Cynthia and her husband split their time between homes in Philadelphia and San Francisco.

Cynthia received her B.A. in Political Science/International Relations from UCLA and her J.D. from UCLA’s Graduate School of Law...

After law school, Hollywood's top entertainment law firms came knocking, but Cynthia decided try her own hand in show business as the alleged "talent". Earlier, she won the Miss Chinatown USA 1984 contest and made an appearance on the Johnny Carson show. She was later named the “$100-Thousand Dollar Spokesmodel Grand Champion” for the popular syndicated show talent show “Star Search", the first Asian American to do so. She co-starred in several popular television shows like "Matlock" and "China Beach". Her co-starring role as “Caithlin Dar” in the movie “Star Trek Five: The Final Frontier” gained her Trekkie fans worldwide. And yes, she attended several Star Trek conventions, and actually enjoyed the experience.

 
 

...In 2004, "More" magazine named Cynthia as one of the top fashion and beauty Spokesmodels for women over-40. Cynthia is shocked and delighted that her modeling career is beginning again at the now tender age of 44...She is happy to report that (finally!) there is an increasing focus by marketing campaigns on the dynamic women over-40 market.
